This colloquium presents students and IT professionals with a complete overview of the latest developments in virtualization technology and applications.
Guest speakers address various aspects of virtualization, including how it can aid the quality assurance process and help with disaster recovery.

Matt Jamison, Red Hat Enterprise
Matt Jamison is a Solutions Architect for the Red Hat Government team. Matt joined Red Hat in 2001 on the company's help desk team, where he was Red Hat's first full time help desk employee. Shortly after, Matt moved into the engineering department and was a quality assurance engineer for Red Hat Network and Satellite. In August 2004, he joined the Government sales organization as a solutions architect. Before Red Hat, Matt spent 8 years on active duty in the U.S. Air Force, and is currently serving as a reservist in the 716th Communications Squadron, Seymour Johnson AFB.
Matt will talk about Red Hat's supported virtualization offering as well as how the components work together to provide a robust offering. He will also discuss the benifits of open source in a virtualization model as well as the current technical advantages of virtualization.

Lawrence Giorgio is Certified Specialist in the area of IT systems Virtualization and the Co-Founder Business Continuity Solutions Inc. He will review the expanding need for Business Continuity at the desktop level and the role that a Virtual Infrastructure and Centralized Desktop Management play’s in the recovery process.
Lawrence will review the expanding need for Business Continuity at the desktop level and the role that a Virtual Infrastructure and Centralized Desktop Management infrastructure play’s in the recovery process. The main focus of the presentation will detail Next Generation techniques of providing higher levels of resiliency via centralized PC/Laptop management and a rapid uniform deployment procedure for DR that can be tested as part of the overall Business Continuity Plan. He will discuss “Best Practices of mitigating Risk outside the hardened secure Data Center”.

Virtualization Technologies Applications to IT Education
Alexander Kranh, USF IT student, SOFTICE project
Alexander S. Kranh works in the IT department of the Public Defender’s Office in Jacksonville, doing computer help desk functions. A veteran of the U.S. Army and Florida National Guard, he plans to work as a network administrator.
Alexander will discuss the aspect of a virtualized server that will allow instructors to achieve the benefits of a high-end server with normal desktop computers. He will illustrate how simple it will be for instructors to download the software and set up students accounts on virtual labs. Through the usage of a program call Softice, instructors can perform network simulations and students can conduct experiments without harming the physical servers.
