  News Release

USF Polytechnic, located in Lakeland at the heart of Florida's High Tech Corridor, is the state's only polytechnic campus. USFP emphasizes learning and research and offers over 20 undergraduate, graduate and certificate programs. Lakeland resident Harriette Miles Hoover received an early mother's day gift when she graduated from the University of South Florida Lakeland with her daughter, Aaron Elizabeth Hoover, also of Lakeland, May 8, at the Lakeland Center. Read more

05-02-2006 • Historic Bok Sanctuary hosts USF Lakeland for scholarship reception

The Historic Bok Sanctuary in Lake Wales was the site for the 4th annual University of South Florida Lakeland Gifts of the Heart scholarship reception on April 23. The reception provides scholarship recipients with the opportunity to personally thank the donors that make USFL’s scholarships possible. Read more

The University of South Florida Lakeland faculty, staff and students will give presentations on their latest research at the 2nd annual Scholarship Day, to be held Friday, April 21 beginning at 9 a.m. This event is free and open to the public and is held at the University, 3433 Winter Lake Road. 04-03-2006 • USF Lakeland Social Work Student Receives Top Honors

A USF Lakeland student has been selected as Student Social Worker of the Year for the Heartland Unit of the National Association of Social Workers (NASW). The Heartland Unit is comprised of Social Workers in the Polk, Hardee and Highland County areas. Read more


03-31-2006 • USF Lakeland's Mercer Invited to Attend Oxford Round Table

USF Lakeland Vice-President and Campus Executive Officer L. Preston Mercer will attend the Oxford Round Table, an international think-tank of scholars, policy makers and other experts who gather at England's prestigious Oxford University to discuss the promotion of human advancement and understanding through the improvement of education. 03-28-2006 • Panel to address diversity issues in Information Technology

A panel of speakers at the University of South Florida Lakeland will address the lack of participation and retention of women and minorities working in Information Technology (IT) fields. The discussion will be held Wednesday, March 29 at 12 noon during the University’s monthly information technology colloquium. Read more


03-21-2006 • Registration open for Spring classes at Senior Center

Spring classes for senior adults at the University of South Florida Lakeland Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center are now open for registration. The classes are scheduled to begin as early as April 3 and are offered at the USF Lakeland campus, the Rath Center in Bartow and throughout the community. Registration is $55 per course and space is limited; pre-registration is required to participate.

University of South Florida President Judy Genshaft announced today to the faculty, staff, students and campus board at USF Lakeland that Marshall Goodman, Ph.D., will be the new vice president and campus executive officer for USF Lakeland. Read more


03-02-2006 • A celebration of diversity with Multicultural Fair, March 9

A one-day celebration of diversity and international culture will take place during the University of South Florida Lakeland’s 2nd annual Multicultural Fair on Thursday, March 9 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. The event is free and open to the public and will be held on the front lawn of USFL, 3433 Winter Lake Road, Lakeland. 02-13-2006 • Geoarchaeological experts to speak at USF on Dead Sea excavations

Since the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 in the Qumran caves overlooking the Dead Sea, archaeology has gone high tech. Speakers from the University of South Florida, the University of Hartford, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Penn State University, will present "From the Cave of Letters to Qumran: Geoarchaeological Research in the Holy Land" Feb. 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in the Behavioral Sciences building (BEH) 104. The event is sponsored by USF's Departments of Anthropology, Geography and Geology. The event is free and open to the public. Read more

Noted emergency medical services (EMS) professional, Mic Gunderson will share his passion and expertise with community members, students and faculty at the University of South Florida Lakeland during a talk on Wednesday, Feb.15 at noon. Sponsored by USFL's Information Technology department, the lecture is free and open to the public. Read more


02-07-2006 • Information Sessions for Educators

The University of South Florida Lakeland is holding four information sessions in February for educators interested in pursuing a master's degree in education. All sessions are free and open to the public. Degree programs offered by USFL include counselor education, reading education and educational leadership; each program is designed for the working teacher who needs flexible class schedules. 01-27-2006 • USF Hosts "Strong Field" of Finalists for Top Lakeland Post

Next week the University of South Florida will be hosting four finalists for the top administrative position at the growing USF Lakeland campus. According to Dr. Karen A. White, Regional Chancellor at USF's St. Petersburg campus and chair of the President's advisory committee for the search, "the narrowed field reflects an impressive group of senior administrators in higher education". 01-23-2006 • Students from Lakeland and the area named to USF Dean's List

Twenty-eight students from Lakeland and the surrounding area were named to the Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester at the University of South Florida Lakeland.

To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must complete 12 hours of graded USF courses with no incomplete grades during the semester and obtain a 3.5 grade point average or above. Read more
