Historic Bok Sanctuary in Lake Wales was the site for the 4th annual
University of South Florida Lakeland Gifts of the Heart scholarship
reception on April 23. The reception provides scholarship recipients
with the opportunity to personally thank the donors that make USFL’s

Mercer will attend the Oxford Round Table, an international think-tank
of scholars, policy makers and other experts who gather at England's
prestigious Oxford University to discuss the promotion of human
advancement and understanding through the improvement of education.

address the lack of participation and retention of women and minorities

03-21-2006 • Registration open for Spring classes at Senior Center
Spring
classes for senior adults at the University of South Florida Lakeland
Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center are now open for registration.
The classes are scheduled to begin as early as April 3 and are offered
at the USF Lakeland campus, the Rath Center in Bartow and throughout
the community. Registration is $55 per course and space is limited;
pre-registration is required to participate.

02-13-2006 • Geoarchaeological experts to speak at USF on Dead Sea
excavations
Since
the discovery of the Dead Sea Scrolls in 1947 in the Qumran caves
overlooking the Dead Sea, archaeology has gone high tech. Speakers
from the University of South Florida, the University of Hartford,
the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and Penn State University,
will present "From the Cave of Letters to Qumran: Geoarchaeological
Research in the Holy Land" Feb. 22 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:45 p.m. in
the Behavioral Sciences building (BEH) 104. The event is sponsored
by USF's Departments of Anthropology, Geography and Geology. The

degree in education. All sessions are free and open to the public.

Top Lakeland Post

week the University of South Florida will be hosting four finalists
for the top administrative position at the growing USF Lakeland
campus. According to Dr. Karen A. White, Regional Chancellor at
USF's St. Petersburg campus and chair of the President's advisory
committee for the search, "the narrowed field reflects an impressive

01-23-2006 • Students from Lakeland and the area named to USF Dean's
List
Twenty-eight
students from Lakeland and the surrounding area were named to the
Dean's List for the fall 2005 semester at the University of South
Florida Lakeland.
To be eligible for the Dean’s List, students must complete
12 hours of graded USF courses with no incomplete grades during
the semester and obtain a 3.5 grade point average or above. Read
