USF Lakeland Responds
To Need For Increased Continuing Ed Options in central Florida
LAKELAND,
FL (August 17, 2005) - This
semester USF Lakeland is launching five specialized degree programs
designed to meet the needs of over 25,000 residents of Polk, Highlands
and Hardee counties who possess Associates degrees issued by Florida's
public community colleges.
According to Dr. Judith Ponticell, USF Lakeland Associate Vice President
for Academic Affairs, the new AS (Associate of Science) to BSAS
(Bachelor of Science in Applied Science) degree program will provide
holders of the AS degree with convenient opportunities to acquire
the BS degree many of them desire for career advancement or personal
fulfillment.
"These innovative offerings are yet another way that USF Lakeland
is able to deliver value to residents of central Florida," noted
Ponticell. "These community college graduates have already demonstrated
motivation, competence and character in completing their AS degrees,
and we are delighted they can now bring those same vital qualities
to their studies here at USF in programs designed especially for
them."
According to Ponticell, AS to BSAS degree programs will be offered
in Information Technology, Industrial Operations, General Business,
Criminal Justice and Early Childhood Development. "While community
college graduates have long been welcome at USF Lakeland, this new
'AS to BSAS' option removes many of the constraints typically involved
in transferring AS degree credits and makes it even easier for students
to pursue their dreams here with us," she added.
Registration for the AS to BSAS degree programs is now open and
will continue through August 26, 2005. For more information call
USF Lakeland at 863-667-7000.
