USF Lakeland to host
Cutting-edge Health and Wellness Conference
LAKELAND,
FL (July 27, 2005) - Many
of the region's leading health and wellness practitioners and nationally
respected scholars will descend upon Lakeland in late August for
a professional conference that brings cutting-edge research to central
Florida. The two-day conference, Journey through Aging, is hosted
by the University of South Florida Lakeland in conjunction with
the USF School of Social Work, USF Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education
Center, Watson Clinic, LLC, Coalition on Aging Think Tank, and Polk
County Medical Association is designed to explore health and human
service issues relating to the aging population.
The Journey through Aging conference is spearheaded by USF Lakeland
Gerontology Professor and Director of the USF Rath Senior ConNEXTions
and Education Center, Rosemarie Lamm, PhD. "This is an extraordinary
opportunity for our community to host experts on something this
important, and it is also a wonderful example of the resources that
USF brings to the table here in Lakeland, both through the main
Lakeland campus and the USF Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education
Center in Bartow," said Dr. Lamm.
Health care and social work professionals may earn as many as seven
Continuing Medical Education (CME) and Continuing Education Unit
(CEU) credits by attending the 2005 Journey through Aging Conference,
August 26 and 27.
The conference will consist of workshops, talks and panel discussions
geared toward registered and practical nurses, physicians, physician
assistants, licensed clinical social workers, pharmacists, psychologists/mental
health therapists, dieticians, radiology technologists, speech therapists,
and other interested health care providers.
Keynote speaker Allen H. Neims, M.D., PhD, professor of Pharmacology
and Therapeutics at the University of Florida (UF) College Of Medicine,
was appointed Director of the Center for Spirituality and Health
at UF in 2002. His address, "Mov'n On: A case for Spirituality and
Health," will focus on the synergy between spirituality, health
and healing and the maintenance of wellness.
The conference also offers more than 15 renowned speakers representing
a variety of top medical and social service institutions. Conference
attendees will have the opportunity to interact with exhibitors,
and there will be multiple opportunities for professional and social
networking. Event sponsors plan to hold this conference biennially.
