USF Lakeland Professor Returns,
Prepares for New Class Offerings
LAKELAND,
FL (June 18, 2002) - Dr.
Barbara Loeding, Associate Professor of Special Education, will be returning
in July to USF Lakeland from her sabbatical. While on leave at DePaul
University, she taught courses in Human-Computer Interaction and on how
to make software and websites accessible for people with disabilities.
Due to the Americans with Disabilities Act and more recently, Section
508, it is incumbent on public agencies and many companies to be sure
that their intranets, software and websites are accessible. Because of
Dr. Loeding's strong commitment to active and authentic learning, she
created opportunities for her students to use their new knowledge to assist
real clients who might not be able to afford to hire consultants. Her
students created a brand new website for DePaul's Office of Students with
Disabilities and made recommendations for revising its Campus Recreation/Fitness
Center, online course evaluation website, and its Distance Education website.
Other teams created or revised local company's websites.
In this way, her students gained valuable real-world experience and the
clients received needed services and recommendations. She looks forward
to teaching similar classes through USF Lakeland in the future.
For more information on this class or on Dr. Loeding’s research,
contact Dr. Barbara Loeding at (863) 667-7065.
