USF Lakeland Enrollment Soars
Again!
LAKELAND,
FL (May 29, 2002) - The
totals are in and, once again, enrollment numbers at USF Lakeland have
sky-rocketed. Enrollment for Summer 2002 courses is up 29.4% from Summer
2001! This increase in summer enrollment follows a 14% increase in student
numbers for the Spring 2002 semester. What does this increase mean for
the growth of the campus and the community overall? Based on enrollment
growth, the campus has received an additional $625,000. This puts the
campus at $2.7 million in new funds for the 2002-2003 year - a 50% increase
from last year. This will allow the campus to provide more class offerings,
programs and Lakeland based faculty for those in the community wishing
to further their education. Furthermore, the growth of the Lakeland campus
brings with it the resources and educational research to stimulate and
directly increase the local community economy.
In the last three years, the USF Lakeland campus has grown over 40%. Though
the campus had humble beginnings with its inception in 1988, the numbers
have continued to grow over the years. Only 6 faculty members and few
complete-able degrees welcomed the initial 40 students choosing to take
classes on the Lakeland campus. Today, over fourteen years later, more
than 1,100 students are taught by nearly 30 Lakeland-based professors,
and have the opportunity to choose from the twenty programs available
on the campus.
