USF Lakeland Representative Presents at Counseling Symposium in Sarasota

LAKELAND, FL (March 11, 2005) - A counseling professional from the University of South Florida Lakeland presented papers during February’s annual Winter Counseling Symposium sponsored by the American Counseling Association (ACA) Foundation and Argosy University. Susan Hurley, M.A., presented an education session titled “Counselor Self Care; strategies for developing increased resolve, hope and empowerment when working with victims of trauma.”

Hurley, a doctoral student in Counselor Education at The University of South Florida, collaborated with fellow doctoral student Theresa Waggoner, M.Ed. for the presentation. Hurley currently serves as the Coordinator for the USF Lakeland Counseling Center and provides a variety of counseling services for all current students, faculty and staff at the University.

The 2nd annual conference, “Responding to Tragedy, Trauma and Crisis” held February 25-27 in Sarasota, provided a unique opportunity for counselors, counselor educators, and students to share research and practice in a changed world.

The American Counseling Association is a not-for-profit, professional and educational organization that is dedicated to the growth and enhancement of the counseling profession. Founded in 1952, ACA is the world's largest association exclusively representing professional counselors in various practice settings.
