USF Lakeland Staff Share
In The Season of Giving
LAKELAND,
FL (December 09, 2003) - During
this time of year, many organizations find ways to help those less fortunate
in their area. This year, the University of South Florida’s Lakeland
campus is assisting two local charities with their needs during the holiday
season. Faculty and staff members on the local campus are making baskets
full of good cheer for subscribers to the “Meals on Wheels”
program. Participating staff members have contributed food, toiletry items
and books to help ease the loneliness sometimes experienced by the elderly
and home-bound. “Response to the idea has been extremely favorable,”
stated Joyce Hunsuckle, USF Lakeland College of Education Program Assistant
and instigator of the Lakeland campus drive for contributions. “We
have a wonderful group of faculty and staff who truly care about making
this Christmas a good one for those in need.”
Faculty and staff members are also taking the opportunity to contribute
to the local “Toys for Tots” campaign. “I wanted to
give people an easily-accessible option for donation. Sometimes we all
just need a little reminder of what it means to really give during the
holidays,” stated Eve Underhill, Director of Human Resources for
the Lakeland campus.
The University of South Florida is ranked one of the top 100 Universities
in the nation. As a Doctoral/Research extensive institution, the highest
educational ranking available, USF Lakeland is dedicated to serving the
citizens of Polk, Highlands, Hardee and eastern Hillsborough counties,
in a regional setting. Established in 1988, the Lakeland campus is a distinctive
locally available University with premier research and instructional status,
providing a variety of complete undergraduate and graduate degrees, web-based
courses, certificate programs and program partnerships with the Tampa
campus. For more information contact USF Lakeland at (863) 667-7000.
