LAKELAND,
FL (March 20, 2003) - The
University of South Florida’s Lakeland campus and the University
of South Florida Foundation, recognizing the growing importance of charitable
gift support for the campus, have appointed Dr. Albert W. Sistrunk as
Executive Director of Development for USF Lakeland.
Coming to the regional campus from the USF Foundation Development office,
Sistrunk brings with him a keen knowledge of fund-raising, both at USF
and elsewhere. He has participated in two successful major university
capital campaigns. Before joining the USF family in 2000, Dr. Sistrunk
served more than 30 years in the field of higher education at such esteemed
institutions as the University of Florida, Auburn University, Pasco-Hernando
Community College, and High Point College, NC.
USF Lakeland and the USF Foundation have approved a Five
Year Fundraising Plan developed by Sistrunk. The plan establishes the objective of raising
$10 Million in endowments and non-endowed funds, with emphasis upon selected
academic disciplines and student support. In the future, naming opportunities
will be developed for endowments and facilities related to the new primary
campus and the joint use technology building. A volunteer development
committee has been established with the guidance of USF Foundation Board
Member and Polk County businessman, Gene Engle, who will chair the committee.
Upon Dr. Sistrunk’s arrival on the regional campus, Dr. Preston
Mercer, Vice-President and CEO of the Lakeland campus stated, “We
are very fortunate to have Dr. Sistrunk’s experience and expertise
as we work to build endowments for the Lakeland campus. His presence
will be the catalyst that takes us to a new level of achievement.”
