USF Lakeland Tours More
Prospective Campus Sites
LAKELAND,
FL (March 5, 2003) - There
are two more green and gold USF signs along Polk County’s roadways,
staking claim to offered land for a new, comprehensive USF Lakeland campus
site. Administrators, faculty and Land Acquisition Committee members
from the USF Lakeland campus toured two more prospective campus sites
yesterday. The sites, offered by Hacklake Forests of Ft. Meade and Old
Florida Plantation of Bartow, are two of the five prospective site offers
received during the campus’ recent request for proposals. A.J. Hackle of Hacklake Forests, accompanied by Ft. Meade Mayor Fitzhugh Sthreshley; Lauretta Sthreshley, Executive Director of the Historic Ft. Meade Chamber of Commerce; Bob Elliot, Vice-Mayor of Ft. Meade; and Al Minner, City Manager presented information to the USF Lakeland group at City Hall in Ft. Meade prior to the morning's tour of the site. Following the tour, committee members met to debrief, discussing their findings from the morning's visit.
The afternoon brought the presentation by Old Florida Plantation representatives at Bob Crawford Agricultural Center in Bartow. Following the presentation, the USF Lakeland group had the opportunity to tour the proposed site with Lou Roeder as their guide. A brief meeting of the Land Acquisition Committee followed the tour.
" We had a very exciting day today," stated Dr. Alice Murray, Assistant Vice President of Academic Affairs at USF Lakeland. "We saw two very nice pieces of property land that re-affirm the fact that we will have a very difficult decision to make."
The USF Lakeland committee will tour prospective land offered by Clear Springs Development Corp., Tuesday, March 18th.
