USF Lakeland Tours Proposed Campus Site

LAKELAND, FL (February 25, 2003) - Passengers on State Road 540 in Polk County between Highway 17 and the Polk Parkway will notice new scenery along the road in the form of a USF sign. The bright yellow sign, stating "Prospective Bulls Country," and featuring the USF Bulls logo will be spotted in four more locations in the coming months. USF Lakeland Administrators, faculty and Land Acquisition Committee members toured the first prospective site for a new, primary campus Wednesday, February 19th. The site, donated by Crescent Cross Cattle Company, is located next to the All-Saints Academy upper campus and is one of five proposed land sites received during the local campus' request for proposals for the new campus. The land, owned by sisters Leigh and Lynn Hampton, would allow the regional campus the room needed to grow as course offerings expand. Touring the site gave committee members the opportunity to see what the land had to offer. Upon conclusion of the tour, committee members met for a short presentation by Mr. Everett Huskey, developer for the Hampton family and for a debriefing of the tour.

" An outstanding example of the generosity and community spirit of the residents of Polk County," commented Dr. Preston Mercer, VP and CEO of the Lakeland Campus.

The USF Lakeland Land Acquisition Committee will tour the four remaining sites on the following dates:
  • Friday, February 28, 2003
    The Williams Co. - 9:00 a.m.

  • Tuesday, March 4, 2003
    Hacklake Properties - 9:00 a.m.
    Old Florida Plantation - 2:00 p.m.

  • Tuesday, March 18, 2003
    Clear Springs Development Corp. - 10:30 a.m.
For more information on the USF Lakeland quest for a new, primary, comprehensive campus site, contact Dr. Alice Murray at (863) 667-7014.
