USF Lakeland Committee Reviews
Campus Proposals
LAKELAND,
FL (February 7, 2003) - The University of South Florida's Lakeland Land Acquisition Committee met Tuesday, February 4th, to review site proposals for their new, primary, comprehensive campus site. Though the proposals were not discussed in depth, committee chairman, USF Lakeland Assistant Vice-President Dr. Alice Murray, ensured each member had complete copies of the proposals to review before the next committee meeting. In his opening remarks, Dr. Preston Mercer, Vice-President and CEO of the local campus, emphasized the magnitude of this process on the surrounding community. "This is an exciting time for Central Florida in the area of Education, especially for our campus," he stated. Mercer made additional comments to the committee, stating that each proposal will receive equal amounts of consideration.
Proposals have been received from five forward-thinking, local organizations: The Hampton family of Crescent Cross Cattle Co., Clear Springs Development Corp., AJ Hackl of Hacklake Forests, Old Florida Plantation and the Williams Company.
In the coming weeks, committee members and other members of University Administration, will have the opportunity to tour each proposed site. Each of the five companies submitting proposals will have the option of giving final presentations after each site has been visited.
For more information about the new campus proposals to USF Lakeland, contact Dr. Alice Murray at (863) 667-7014. Also visit the Land Acquisition Committee website.
