Registration open for Senior Scholars program
LAKELAND,
FL (March 12, 2008) - Spring classes for senior adults at the University of South Florida Lakeland Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center are now open for registration. Classes are scheduled to begin as early as March 17 and are offered at the USF Lakeland campus, the Rath Center in Bartow and throughout the community. Registration for most courses is $55. Some courses are offered at no charge. Space is limited, and pre-registration is required to participate.
Courses for the Spring 2006 session include
- Creative Writing
- Beginning French
- Diabetes Management
- Beginning Computers
- Intermediate Computers
- Use it or Lose it: Brain Health and Cognitive Function
- Genealogy: "Creating a Family History"
- Acting 101
- Why Diets Don't Work
- Music with Friends
- Introduction to Keyboard/Organ
- Food, Fun and Frolic: Prevention and Nutrition for Health
- John Wayne: The Duke in Depth
- 100 Years of Broadway
"All of our programs are created to enhance continued intellectual and personal growth," said Dr. Rosemarie S. Lamm, director of the USF Lakeland Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center.
The Senior Scholars Program gives seniors 50+ the opportunity to continue the lifelong learning process in a friendly classroom environment. Classes are held once a week for a six-week semester. Class length is usually two hours, but adjustments can be made based on instructor needs.

In adition to Senrior Scholar classes, the Rath Center offers the following support groups to the community:
Caregiver's Support Group
Every Thursday morning, 10:00 a.m. - Noon
(Respite care offered)
Mild Cognitive Impairment/Early Dementia Support Group
Every other Monday, 4:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.
Parkinson's Disease Support Group
Second Wednesday of each month, 3:00 p.m. - 4:00p.m.
