FedEx executive speaks at USF Lakeland IT Colloquium
LAKELAND,
FL (February 21, 2008) - "We feel Lakeland has great potential. It's a real growth area for information technology," said Dennis Michael, vice president of information technology, FedEx Freight System, yesterday at the University of South Florida Lakeland's Information Technology Colloquium
In his remarks, Michael, who hold a master's degree and a Ph.D. from USF, offered insights into IT's role at FedEx Freight. He discussed the challenge of how to converge systems and provide consistent applications throughout a multinational corporation.
"The key," he said, "is what can IT deliver to help the company achieve its goals. We can't fulfill the promise of excellence without technology"
Dennis Michael, VP of Information Technology, FedEx Freight System
Michael, who met yesterday with USF Lakeland vice president and CEO Marshall Goodman, said he fully supports the university's polytechnic vision. After the colloquium he encouraged students to talk to a FedEx Freight IT recruiter who also attended the event.
The IT colloquium series is sponsored by USF's IT department, which is one of only three departments in the USF system to have its headquarters on a regional campus. Free and open to the public, the colloquium series features USF faculty, community members and visiting professors and aims to expand the scope of traditional computer science education into a broader set of disciplines more in tune with the needs of modern society and business.
