Outstanding Faculty Award
LAKELAND,
FL (December 6, 2007) - The University of South Florida Lakeland has announced that Assistant Professor Andrew Artis, Ph.D., has received the Outstanding Faculty Award for Fall 2007, presented by the USF Lakeland Student Government Association (SGA).
The award is the highest campus-level honor for USF Lakeland faculty members.
“We recognize our faculty for their dedication to our students,” said Stacey Pouliot, SGA vice president. “This award is one way for the students to honor their professors.
“The decision was a difficult one to make, as we had several outstanding professors nominated. The SGA congratulates Dr. Artis for his hard work and devotion.”
When nominating Dr. Artis for the award, students praised his dedication to education and his importance in their lives.
“Dr. Artis is an outstanding professor and the perfect representation of what a faculty member at USF Lakeland should be,” said Tara Crum, SGA president. “In the classroom, he is an advocate of self-directed learning, which helps students reflect on and adapt to today’s rapidly changing world.
“Dr. Artis has made a difference in my life, not only academically but also personally, and for that I am forever thankful. “
In recent student assessments, one student said, “I enjoy Dr. Artis’ teaching. He’s passionate, understanding and demands hard work from students. He’s an excellent professor. “
From another student: “Dr. Artis inspired me to strive for higher goals in my life. Professors like Dr. Artis make USF Lakeland a great college.”
Dr. Artis is an assistant professor of marketing in the Division of Business. He received his Ph.D. from the University of Tennessee and joined the USF Lakeland faculty in 2003.
“Given the talent of our faculty at USF Lakeland, I am truly honored to be selected by our students for this award,” he said. “I realize that students think they have received something of real value when they complete one of my courses, but I truly come out ahead because teaching these students is like drinking from the fountain of youth: It keeps you forever young.”
