USF Lakeland expert speaks on aging and technology

FL (November 27, 2007) - Rosemarie Lamm, R.N., Ph.D., director of the University of South Florida Lakeland Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center, and an instructor at USF Lakeland, presented a paper at the Dagstuhl Seminar on Assisted Living Nov. 14-17, 2007, in Germany.
Her presentation, “Aging and Technology,” was a keynote address with Dr. Edwin Lamm, who presented “Chronic Illness and Aging.” This presentation was in conjunction with a paper Dr. Rosemarie Lamm co-authored entitled “Ambient Assisted Living.” The co-authors are Drs. Arthur Karshmer, Jurgen Nehmer and Martin Becker.
The seminar included participants from five continents and many nations were represented. Presenters described current research related to the use of technology in enhancing living conditions while elders “aged in place.” These research concepts included devices for driving safely, sensors for ambulation and verbal and visual contact with health care professionals, families and friends. European countries are actively pursuing these frontiers of research.
