Dr. Stephen Klasko to speak on healthcare at USF Lakeland
Stephen Klasko, M.D.
Vice President for USF Health and
Dean of the USF College of Medicine
LAKELAND,
FL (September 7, 2007) - Stephen Klasko, M.D., vice president for USF Health and dean of the USF College of Medicine, will be the featured speaker at the first Polk County Advanced Practice Nurse Symposium on Friday, Sept. 14, 2007. The event is co-sponsored by the University of South Florida Lakeland, the Saxena Family Endowed Lecture series and the Rath Senior ConNEXTions and Education Center.
Dr. Klasko will discuss “Why Healthcare Has Escaped the Quality Revolution…and What We Can Do About It.” There is no admission charge, and all health care professionals and community members are welcome to attend.
Dr. Klasko has bridged the art, science and business of medicine through his unique background of academic and administrative medicine, clinical practice and business training. As vice president for USF Health, he is building a partnership among colleges of medicine, nursing and public health, as well as a school of physical therapy and biomedical science. As dean of the College of Medicine at USF, he has begun a process to take a young medical school and create a modern clinical, educational and research program based on the entrepreneurial-academic model.
According to Dr. Marshall Goodman, VP & CEO, USF Lakeland, Klasko's engagement with the region is yet another example of the impact USF Lakeland's "polytechnic model" will have on the community.
"Dr. Klasko is world-renowned for his work in bridging theory and practice to make a difference in real-world healthcare,” said Goodman. “Our partnership with USF Health will represent that ideal of 'knowledge that makes a difference.'"
The event begins takes place from 8:00 p.m. to 9:15 p.m. in the Lakeland Technology Building on the USF Lakeland campus, 3433 Winter Lake Rd., Lakeland.
