USF Lakeland CEO Cited
for Technology Leadership
LAKELAND,
FL (December 6, 2006) - Even
as he works to build a technology-oriented university campus in
central Florida, a University of South Florida executive is being
nationally recognized for his technology leadership.
In a cover story, the current issue of Campus Technology focuses
on five "tech visionary" chief academic officers, and USF Lakeland's
own Marshall Goodman, VP/CEO, is at the very top of the list. In
addition to USF, the list includes leaders from systems such as
Cal State and Penn State.
The publication notes Goodman's recent achievements as provost at
San Jose State University in California's "silicon valley," long
known as a hotbed of technology innovation in the United States,
emphasizing his accomplishments in the technology field. Goodman
captured national attention for his commitment to integrating technology
in teaching, research and campus life and for the innovative public-private
partnerships he developed with leading tech firms.
Since arriving at USF Lakeland earlier this year, Goodman has articulated
a vision for the regional campus as an engine of economic development
throughout the USFL service area. According to Goodman, "We must
assume a leadership role in the technology sector - not only as
teachers but also as researchers, developing the kind of 'applied
tech' that makes a difference in people's lives and actually creates
economic opportunity for our communities."
USF and Polk Community College have recently opened a new joint-use
technology building on the PCC/USF campus on Lakeland's southeast
corner, and Goodman is working with USF President Judy Genshaft,
community leaders and Polk County's delegation in Tallahassee on
funding for a new, technology-centered campus at the northeast corner
of I-4 and the Polk Parkway.
