USF Lakeland Introduces Senior
Scholars Program
LAKELAND,
FL (September 30, 2002) - A
new program at the University of South Florida’s Lakeland campus
is proof-positive that learning is a life long process. The USF Lakeland
campus is offering a unique educational opportunity to area senior citizens
known as the Senior Scholars Program. Beginning with the first course
titled “Intro to Computers” offered in November, seniors will
have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of learning experiences
on the Lakeland campus. The course will begin November 6th
with classes meeting each Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. through
December 11th. There is a $25.00 fee for the course with
classes limited to 40 students. This course will be the first of many
to take place on the local campus, as directors of the program expect
expansion of the program in semesters to come.
A free orientation session for the class and for the entire Senior Scholars
program will be held Wednesday, October 16th from 10:00
a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in room 1276 on the Lakeland campus. The
session will enable interested parties to become familiar with the course,
as well as the program in its entirety. Those interested in participating
in the October 16th orientation may RSVP by October 14th by contacting
Brian Beatty, Senior Scholars Program Coordinator, at (863) 667-7029.
