University of South Florida
Lakeland Campus
Land Acquisition Committee Meeting
Addendum
In addition to the debriefing of the Williams
Site the following issues/statements were addressed:
- Importance of the Land Acquisition Committee
answering questions from the donors, just as we request questions
of them (i.e. architecture, design of campus)
- Master Planners will help the committee understand
the true developable land for the University's purposes - that is
being offered by each donor. The area of land that we need for the
University - what would the campus look like on the proposed sites.
Can you develop on the land? Relative cost of developing mined and
un-mined land?
Campus Master Planner Update:
- Final Draft of contract is in progress
- When will they meet with the committee?
- Is there a time line for the Master Planner? Yes, mid - June. 60 days.
- In what order will they view the sites? What parameters would you set for them to view the sites?
- The land does give direction in how you are
going to layout your campus.
- What are we projecting for student count?
- What kind of flexibility do we have with
expansion? (i.e. residence halls)
- How do we prioritize the sites?
- Location
- Visibility
- Student Population
- Some of the presentations have included
a high level of detail, as a committee we have to "level the playing
field" as far as the comparative information.
- Ms. Barbara Donerly has started an archeology
student is doing research into the probability of archeological significance
- they will do a more detailed report once a site is selected.
- Question:
What is the final date for anything supplemental to be received from the donors?
The committee needs to set a time frame. Level Playing field. After site visits
are completed, we need to set a final date for anything submitted
(supplemental) to the original offer. Examples of supplemental might
be property, financial donation, endowments, etc.
- The committee needs time after meeting with the Master Planner to
create a list of any questions that they have for the donors. It might not
be necessary for an additional final presentation if the donor responds to
the questions asked by the committee - this is then seen as a final offer. Give a final date for the responses to be returned. To be determined once the Master Planners begin their work.
- Dr. Al Sistrunk is writing a letter to prospective donors - including
an approach to a deadline for final gift submittal. He will send a rough draft
to the committee for review.
- Time Line concerns the committee - the Lakeland
Campus Board has been gracious in understanding the sensitivity of
the time line and already extending the time line for a property
selection. The Master Planner can help set this time line as they
begin their process.
- Using Geo-technical companies from Lakeland.
- There needs to be clarification in the ranking
of the sites.
- Listing pro's and con's
- Number ranking (preferred by the Land Acquisition Committee)
- Early interaction with the Master Planner will benefit
the committee as it continues its evaluations of the sites.
- Committee members should individually address and
assess each piece of property individually.
- Suggestion: All donors could be invited to the meeting
the Land Acquisition Committee has with the Master Planner - when their
analysis is available.
- Legal Opinions - General Counsel - Foundation Attorney
- Ranking of the sites - Dr. Murray will get clarification for the committee
- Visit to other institutions:
- Potential visits to:
Florida Gulf Coast
University of Tampa (new multi-purpose building)
