Degree Program
The Master’s in Educational Leadership is available in its entirety at USF Lakeland and other off-campus sites. The Master of Education (M.Ed.) degree is a 36-semester-hour program of study. It is designed to provide the theoretical and conceptual knowledge base required for the principalship and for Florida Educational Leadership Certification. Courses required in the program address the Florida Leadership Standards specified by the Florida Department of Education and included in the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE). Educational Leadership Certification is subject to Florida Department of Education approval. A M.Ed. in Educational Leadership or its equivalent, three years of teaching experience and successful completion of the Florida Educational Leadership Examination (FELE) are required by the state of Florida for certification in Educational Leadership.
USF Lakeland offers flexibility within the program to meet student needs by providing alternative course delivery systems. Course work is offered Monday — Thursday evenings, web-enhanced or web-based, Saturdays or other alternative calendar options as announced.
Admissions Criteria
All
students seeking the M.Ed. and/or certification in Educational Leadership
must file a Graduate
Application with the Office of Admissions. Applications are available
at the USF Lakeland campus or at http://admissions.grad.usf.edu/materials.html.
Admission Requirements:
- Possess a baccalaureate degree from an accredited institution of
higher learning.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher in last two years of undergraduate study, GRE
is not required.*
- Meet teacher certification requirements and hold a valid teaching certificate.
- Documentation of 2 or more years of successful teaching at time
of application.
- Submit 3 sealed letters of recommendation to Graduate Admissions
with the application.
- Submit 2 sealed copies of transcripts from all colleges and universities
attended.
- Typewritten personal statement by applicant detailing why he/she
is interested in
the Educational Leadership Master’s program.
- Meet all the requirements for admission into the University of South
Florida College of Education.
