Labs are provided for students
to do course work pursuant to their studies at the University of South
Florida. Personal computers and printing facilities are not to be used
for personal and/or private business. Students found to be using lab
facilities for purposes other than doing course work will be asked to
leave the lab.
Computers are all configured to provide a specific suite of application
software that meets the needs of most students. The lab is not equipped
to support all commercially available software. Students are not
allowed to load personal software on computer hard drives. Personal
software that can be run from a floppy disk or CD is allowed on all
machines. Computer games are not allowed on the machines in any PC
lab. Students running games will be asked to close the game and leave
the lab, please be considerate of others that need to do college
assignments and adhere to this policy.
Students will use the computer assigned by the lab assistant. Students
wishing to move to another computer must get permission from the
lab assistant.
Students are required to provide their own diskettes and CDs. The lab
does not provide students with diskettes or blank CDs for use.
PC Configuration
Students are not allowed to reconfigure, setup and/or install files
in the personal computers or printers located in the lab. Storing
unauthorized software on the lab computers is not allowed. Students
are not authorized to plug/unplug cables from the rear of computers.
Documentation
A limited amount of documentation is available in the lab. Most programs
have a help menu option, and online help is encouraged. Users are
required to show a valid USF ID card, no other form of ID may be
substituted. Documentation is for lab use only and is not to be taken
out of the lab. Documentation for most applications is available
for purchase at the University Book Store or any number of other
book stores in the area. Most application programs have comprehensive
help facilities that serve as application documentation.
Food and Drink in Labs
Food and drink will not be allowed in any computer lab. Unopened containers
of food, cans or cups will not be allowed in the labs unless they
are stored in a book bag, purse or brief case and must be kept out
of sight. Students with food or drink will be asked to leave the
lab.
Lab Technician Help
Our lab technicians are trained to provide basic help to lab users.
They are able to help you start your applications, offer help with
printing, restarting computers and applications. They can provide
general information on Windows. Lab technicians are not trained to
debug programs, analyze output or assist with homework. Please consult
your T/A, or professor for this type of help.
Printer Use
Printers are provided for doing course work only. Paper substitution
is not allowed. There is a charge per page fee for black and white
and for color print. Reprints are available free of charge for printer
jams. We are not responsible for variations in color. Refunds are
not available.
Lab Telephone
The telephone in the lab is not a courtesy phone. Lab users are not
to receive calls in the labs.
Closing Procedure
All labs will close at the prescribed times. Users will be advised
at least 10 minutes prior to closing so that they may send last minute
printouts to the printer. No student will be allowed to stay in the
lab after closing.
